Inspiring Artistic Minds

Art Beats Academy, founded by experienced art teacher Tami Oakes, focuses on nurturing talent and encouraging self-expression through engaging drawing and painting classes. Join  to explore the dynamic world of art and unlock your creative potential.

ArtBeats Academy provides live, online art classes for students ages 7 and up. All instruction is aligned with the California Visual Arts Standards and integrates the four artistic processes:

  • Creating – Students develop original ideas and apply specific techniques in drawing, painting, and oil pastel.

  • Presenting – Students learn to plan and compose works of art for clear visual impact.

  • Responding – Students interpret and evaluate art through guided discussion.

  • Connecting – Students link artistic concepts to personal experiences, cultural traditions, and historical contexts.

Teaching Philosophy

Instruction blends technical skill-building with creative exploration. Lessons begin with step-by-step demonstrations, followed by guided practice and individual feedback. Students are encouraged to adapt techniques to suit their creative vision, building both competence and confidence.

Assessment & Evidence of Learning

Learning is assessed through in-class participation, application of techniques, and verbal reflection during each session. No outside work submissions are required. Instructor observes student work in progress and completed projects during class as evidence of meeting standards.

Materials

Students provide their own materials, appropriate to each class’s medium. Lists are provided in advance for every course.

Riley

"Our learner is a newbie to watercoloring, and we could not be happier with the outcome, the individualized attention from Ms. Tami is just perfect for our absolute beginner! Highly recommend."
