4-Week Course | Meets 50 Minutes Once/Week | Live Online | Ne Subject each week | Ages 9-13 (flexible) This portrait series celebrates emotion, color, and self-expression. Each class introduces a new artist’s unique approach to the human face and how they use exaggeration, color, and line to create expressive portraits that tell a story.—from Frida Kahlo’s powerful symbolism to Basquiat’s raw mark-making. Portraits don't have to be perfect! Students will learn proportion, emotion, and how to use oil pastel to create portraits with personal meaning. Students will practice: facial structure, shape exaggeration, pattern, and storytelling through portraiture Artists studied: Week 1 - Frida Kahlo Week 2 - Amedeo Modigliani Week 3 - Sandra Silberzweig Week 4 - Jean-Michel Basquiat Each course focuses on a specific theme, guided by the styles of both historic and contemporary artists. Classes are paced to balance step-by-step instruction with creative freedom and time to explore each artist’s approach. Some experience with drawing is recommended, but the instruction is designed to support a wide range of learners and skill levels. Classes are kept small to allow for individual support and interaction.
